Module 08 · Sector Playbooks (India)

What this module does. Eleven field guides, one per sector, each in the same shape: how the industry makes money → value chain and structure → KPIs and where to find them → what drives earnings and multiples → accounting quirks → red flags → how to value → representative listed companies (for study, not recommendation) → a ten-question checklist. Dated to September 2026; every real-company fact must be re-verified before use.

Why it matters. The generic toolkit of Modules 04–07 is necessary; the sector's own KPIs and regulatory levers are what an analyst is actually judged on. A bank analyst who does not know the ECL transition date, or an auto analyst who does not read VAHAN, is not doing the job.

How to use the playbooks

  • Read the sector you are researching before the company; run the ten-question checklist on every company in it.
  • Each playbook's "representative companies" are the study set for building your own 10-year dashboards (04.6) — the fastest route to a circle of competence (11.1).
  • Dates matter: the regulatory and cycle facts here are a snapshot; the checklists are durable.

Connections

You're ready to move on when you can…

  • For any sector, name the three KPIs that matter most and where each is published.
  • Explain each sector's dominant macro or regulatory variable (12.1).
  • Choose the right valuation method per sector and the accounting quirk that most distorts comparisons.
  • Run the ten-question checklist on a real company in three sectors.
